The Big Give Christmas Challenge!

What is The Big Give?

This year Creating Better Futures is taking part in The Big Give Christmas Challenge. This is the UK’s biggest match funding campaign that offers Creating Better Futures supporters the opportunity to have their donation doubled, from midday 30th November 2021 – midday 7th December 2021.

How will the campaign help us?

We are using this campaign to raise money for our reusable sanitary towel project.

70% of girls attending secondary school in rural Zimbabwe miss class when they are menstruating due to lack of access to and affordability of hygienic sanitary protection. Up to 528 days of school can be missed throughout a girl’s education and this lower attendance often results in lower attainment, preventing them from being able to continue advancing in their education.

Creating Better Futures aims to eradicate period poverty by providing young girls and women with reusable sanitary towels and increased access to effective menstrual hygiene management, enabling girls to feel more confident and resulting in more equitable access to education and enrolment in school. By setting up production in Zimbabwe we also hope to help give employment to other women who will also benefit from using the sanitary towels. This project recognizes that supplying sanitary pads alone is not enough to ensure effective menstrual hygiene management. Subsequently, sanitation workshops and reproductive health classes are run both within schools and to the wider community, ensuring both men and women are engaged in the process.

What is a pledge and how can you help?

A pledge is a promise to pay a given sum at a later date. Pledges are then used to double the online donations when that stage goes live on the 30th of November 2021. For example, if you pledge £250, a Big Give Champion (external funders working with The Big Give) doubles this pledge to £500. Once the campaign goes live and online donations are being accepted, donors match the pledge to a total of £1,000! Champion funds are only awarded up to the total of a charity’s pledges, so confirming pledges is a really important first step to ensure a successful campaign.

Our target!

We hope to raise £8,000 through the campaign. This involves raising £2,000 from pledgers and £2,000 from champions, which will be used to double our target of £4,000 in donations during the live campaign.

We’re almost there – 65%

Creating Better Futures needs a minimum of £1,000 to take part in the campaign and the minimum pledge is £100. Pledges can be made by individuals, trusts, foundations or companies. If you are interested in becoming a pledger for the 2021 Christmas Challenge please fill in the form below by 5 pm Friday the 27th of August

Pledges are not payable until after the online donation stage has closed. More instructions on how to pay your pledge will be sent after the online donation stage is complete.
